ABOUT CHOGM OPERATIONS CENTRE
A mission critical AV solution required for security CHOGM in Perth.
CUSTOMER NEEDS
In the planning phase leading up to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Perth Western Australia at the end of 2011, WA Police identified the need to substantially upgrade their ability to monitor the vast and diverse information feeds available to both themselves, and all other involved bodies.
PROJECT OUTCOMES
This centre facilitated the collaboration of staff from bodies such as WA police groups (General Duties, Traffic Operations, TRG, SWAT, Media Liaison etc.), the Australian Federal Police, the Australian Army, Westralian Airports Corporation, the City of Perth, WA Main Roads and the Perth Transit Authority as well as water, electricity, gas, FESA and ambulance representatives. The system installed incorporated a projected video wall 30 metres long and over 3 metres high, made up of 5 x 10,000 ANSI Lumen projectors with 1920×1200 resolution. These projectors were designed and warranted for 24/7 operation. Signal distribution from over 30 sources was distributed both to the main floor and throughout the building, to 18 displays including the main video wall, a smaller 5×2 LCD video wall, and several meeting rooms. This was accomplished with extraordinary flexibility to meet the operational requirements. A Crestron control system ensured instantaneous selection of the layouts required, from any of the three command desks.
THE SOLUTION
The solution was to construct an Operations Centre to accommodate over 100 people inside a converted basketball court in the Maylands Police complex.
CONCEPT AV’S ROLE
Concept AV provided a complete design, installation, commissioning, testing and maintenance service, including on-site presence 24/7 for the lead-up and duration of the CHOGM event. As anticipated, the on-site presence was not required, as every component functioned flawlessly, however it was important for the security of the operation that a fully trained AV service technician was available at a moments notice (complete with a full hot-swap arsenal) should anything arise.
